I could understand a comment like that if I had turned up in shorts and a hoodie, but I wore a suit and a tie when I met the man, and he's only seen me that once.

So right now, I'm a bit confused and wondering if I should go into Interview No. 2 in full academic dress.
What was he wearing at the first interview?
I didn't even think to make note of it. I don't remember him wearing a tie, but I could be wrong. If that's the case, though, perhaps I was dressed too 'severely'? He said that I needed to look 'more like a tutor' but couldn't tell me what that meant or what he would like me to change. :?
Smart casual then - open necked shirt and a pair of trews. It's the shoes that maketh the man of course. Not speedo's and flip flops. You could go the whole way and get a corduroy jacket with elbow patches and a pipe, but they might think you are mocking them.
If I’ve got owt to say I says it, and if I’ve got owt to ask I asks it.

You're probably right. I'll tone it down a bit this time. That said, suppose he'd think I was being a wise-a--- if I went in like this? :D

How about doing the second but adding the very smart-looking mortarboard, Paul? And if I can push the interview back another twenty years, I may be able to see about a Mr Chips-esque moustache. Very professorial, I'd say, and if your man wants me to 'look like a tutor' and appeal to conservative tastes, I'm not sure I can do much better than war-era academic wear.

Perhaps crazy, but I could listen to them talk (or even just read their writing) all day long!

Except if they're lecturing on the physiology of electrolytes. It is not humanly possible to distinguish the prefixes "hyper" and "hypo" when spoken by an Englishman.

Make sure you watch Jimmy's recordings of last Sunday's church appearance - top notch (even if the enunciation on 'Glory to Thee' is a little off so it sounds like they are praising the Holy Goat  )

This is completely random but...I'm looking at different study abroad programs trying to find something that I can qualify for (and afford) to go to uni in London for a semester or year. And of course the vast number of programs I've found in a brief search has made me WAYYYY too excited even though I'm a couple years from being able to go. Thoughts of getting to go to an Evensong at King's (trying to not think about going to lessons and carols) are now running through my head *drool*
