A man with whom I interviewed for a teaching and tutoring position called back a bit earlier today in order to offer me a second interview—which is good—but said that I need to change the way I dress in order to appeal to his 'more conservative' clientele. I could understand a comment like that if I had turned up in shorts and a hoodie, but I wore a suit and a tie when I met the man, and he's only seen me that once.

So right now, I'm a bit confused and wondering if I should go into Interview No. 2 in full academic dress.

What was he wearing at the first interview?

I didn't even think to make note of it. I don't remember him wearing a tie, but I could be wrong. If that's the case, though, perhaps I was dressed too 'severely'? He said that I needed to look 'more like a tutor' but couldn't tell me what that meant or what he would like me to change.

How about doing the second but adding the very smart-looking mortarboard, Paul? And if I can push the interview back another twenty years, I may be able to see about a Mr Chips-esque moustache. Very professorial, I'd say, and if your man wants me to 'look like a tutor' and appeal to conservative tastes, I'm not sure I can do much better than war-era academic wear.

Make sure you watch Jimmy's recordings of last Sunday's church appearance - top notch (even if the enunciation on 'Glory to Thee' is a little off so it sounds like they are praising the Holy Goat )

This is completely random but...I'm looking at different study abroad programs trying to find something that I can qualify for (and afford) to go to uni in London for a semester or year. And of course the vast number of programs I've found in a brief search has made me WAYYYY too excited even though I'm a couple years from being able to go. Thoughts of getting to go to an Evensong at King's (trying to not think about going to lessons and carols) are now running through my head *drool*
