Libera concerts over the years

Post by The Furby »

Hello all

I’m no regular poster here (although a fervent reader) but I thought this might be of interest :)

Continuing the efforts of Inna at Libera’s World as well as Martin at libera-songs.de, I created a database on Libera concerts from the very first in Plymouth, back in 2000.

I tried to collect every piece of info and media that could be of interest regarding these concerts, including direct links to reviews – many of them from this very forum. Going through every concert thread was quite fastidious but enlightening (did you know that half of Arundel 2010 thread is actually discussing Yorkie’s blatant resemblance to Cary Grant ?)

I also linked every concert/tour to the corresponding threads at Libera Passion / Dream / Welt forums so that may come in handy in terms of navigation.

A big thank to all contributors who are taking time to share photos, videos, and reviews of their experiences – I tried to credit everyone whenever possible. Also thanks to fan_de_LoK for his careful specialist proofreading!

It’s still a WiP and will be updated regularly

Wow, The Furby! That's a great progress! I know exactly how very much work such things are - to collect all information, think of the user-friendliest way to present them, prepare them, to maintain them updated ... I truly admire your work!

And haven't I always said that Libera is a full-time job?

Thank you in particular for the crediting you do, because they all contribute with their work and databases to the whole and deserve to be mentioned. You did all this to the fullest! :)

Yes, and this shows that we have a wonderful international fan network! :D

Chapeau, The Furby!

HOLY SMOKES!!!

I do not know what I admire more, that you took the time to do this or that you did it so well. So it is both! I cannot even begin to imagine the number of hours needed to collect, compile, and organize such a massive amount of information from disparate and varied sources. There are scans of programs, set lists, the choristers who performed, soloists on song, reviews, and related back linking to all appropriate profile and song information.

Furby, to say that I use your resources constantly when participating in discussions with fellow fans is an understatement. First you had the members list, then the album list, and now the concert list. What you have done for the fan community is invaluable; the devotion that you have to catalog and give credit to our favorite choir is beyond impressive and is worthy of the highest accolades.

Many in our fan community bring different personal qualities to the table in pursuit of our enjoyment of this group and discussion of their music. Some bring their musical knowledge, some their helpful or warm personalities, others their ability to find information, and so forth and so on. But what you provide is a big part of the glue that holds it all together, something that allows us to discuss the group and their music without having to rely on personal memory. How many times have I personally said something like "I don't think they ever sang that live" or "They sang that only as Angel Voices before" only to be corrected by someone who had to take the time to dig through CDs? Many! I have sometimes made guesses about concert performances (e.g. a particular song never being sung live) with no one to confirm the veracity of my assertion. Asking someone in the fan community to go through years of programs (assuming that they even have many programs, some of us give ours away to friends or attend few concerts) just to settle a curiosity is a very heavy request.

With that said, I cannot thank you enough for this and for the countless hours you spent making it. I am still in shock. :D

GOOD JOB!

Wow, just WOW!!!

Thank you The Furby for providing us with so comprehensive set of information. It's not only the Libera members, songs and recordings, but also the concerts. It must have been so much work to collect the pieces of information from different sources and put them all together in a consistent way. The much appreciation!

I wonder only, if there is a relational database holding al that Libera related pieces of information at the back-end, or if the items of information were edited and linked manually. Though, it's a technical issue (Sorry, having an IT background, this came to my mind  ).

I second filiarheni. Having an international fan network with cooperating and not competing members is really something very much appreciated.

Congratulations! Yorkshire, having the most number of Post, this is my first post, hoping to know more about the Libera Dreams.

I am a member of our church choir and is planning to invite Libera Boys to sing at our church, still needs to know how to go about making this happen?

Hi Reggie and family, welcome to the Forum! Perhaps you would like to introduce yourself in the "Introduce yourself" section of the Forum? You could tell us more about how you came to know Libera, where you come from, whether you attended any concerts already etc.

As for inviting the boys to come to your church, my best bet would be to contact Libera directly through their website. Do keep in mind that depending on travel and other arrangements, you could be looking at a substantial financial investment.

That aside, I join in the unanimous praise for TheFurby's tremendous work in putting this concert database together. It is wonderfully done and a valuable asset to all Libera fans, who never cease to amaze me in their dedication.

I second this. As I've seen and used a lot of resources (especially the French forum, the German site, and the Historical Timeline) and all are beyond words. The "personal qualities" (as Surpinto said) of the fans and what's more, the dedication and collection of devoted fans, I cannot credit them enough...

To think that we, different people from different countries and background cultures and have different things to do, come together to discuss the music we like and then have our ideas and opinions collected altogether with comprehensive official information, photos & other things, is something really meaningful!

So, THANK YOU, again!

I'm not really knowledgeable about databases so I hope I can answer your question ...
I'm working with spreadsheets and use very basic formulas to semi-automatically generate base BBcode segments that format the final tables. As for the pieces of info everything is edited and linked manually. I'm sure I could have saved time one way or another when creating it but I'm no technician

Hi, I found this Youtube video . I think it's from one of the concerts but not sure which one. Anyone knows? Plus who's the soloist for this?

I would guess from the number of boys on stage that it was from the spring 2010 concerts in Korea & Japan. I would lean towards it being one of the Korean concerts. Sanctus was performed on the set list and the tour comprised of 18 boys.

I appreciate all the time you took to compile this information. I've spent a considerable amount of time browsing through it all. I wanted to point out what I believe to be an error regarding the 2011 U.S. tour setlist. The opening song of the second half of the concert is listed as "Te Lucis". When you click on the title, it mentions the track from the 1999 "Libera" album. It's also known as Tallis's Canon. I don't believe it was that piece, but rather a chant sung by the lower voices. I don't recall whether it was the exact same chant melody as the one at the start of "Vespera". It may have been, because for the longest time I thought "Vespera" had been part of the concert I attended. "Glory to thee" is listed later in the second half of the concert setlist, and it's basically the same Tallis's Canon tune, but with only English lyrics. I doubt they would have done it twice.
