This might have been posted before, but it's good for a laugh as part of Christmas cheer.

Less than two hours to go for the 100th Festival of Lessons and Carols from King's in Cambridge.
Tune into BBC Radio 4 at 3 pm UK time for a promising programme, including Stille Nacht in German (the world-famous carol celebrating its own 200th birthday this year!).
Merry Christmas to all!

Listening to it now, just managed to scrape it in time after work. I can't download the service booklet though the kings website is down...probably due to over demand. Stephen Cleobury's last Festival of Nine Lessons at the helm after 37 dedicated years of service. I'll watch the pre-recorded TV broadcast later on aswell.

King's just posted a wonderful Christmas gift on Twitter:

Thank you for your kind words for #9LC today. We’re pleased to say that this service – the 100th anniversary and @SJCleobury’s last – was recorded today for the first time ever in Dolby Atmos surround-sound and will be released in due course on our own label.

So we've all been enjoying or reading about Libera's sparkling new arrangement of the Christmas carol I Saw Three Ships. Well, it turns out that these "three ships" show up in another carol in celebration of "Christmas morning":

(and I'm allowed to post a Christmas carol today as today is Epiphany :) )
(ETA: actually, today is very appropriate: three ships, for three kings! :))

I love Francis Bernier, great Canadian singer who started quite young. I discovered him while searching for Libera videos on youtube, I also like the Choirboys and Billy Gilman. Then at the other end if the spectrum there are bands like Underworld and Boards of Canada, I have VERY varied tastes in music.

I thought I would recommend a composer who is local to my area. Jake Runestad is a Minneapolis-based composer who has written some wonderful choral music. He's only 32 years old, so his best music may be yet to come. Here are several pieces by him that show his range as a composer. The story behind the first recording of the first piece is quite moving.

Good share. I listened to the first song so far, and tears. I'll share with a friend from college whose husband just went to be with the Lord a couple days ago. Cheers.

The Choir of King's College, Cambridge is performing in my neck of the woods tonight at the Cathedral of St. Paul. The concert starts at 7:30 PM CDT. You can go to https://www.classicalmpr.org/ to hear the concert being broadcast live. There is a play button at the top of the page. I don't know if there will be issues for those outside of the U.S.

I'm listening to it on the radio. It's been pretty good in general, but one issue I have is that a few of the trebles produce a wobbly vibrato sound rather frequently, harming the vocal blend. Otherwise, I also enjoyed the part where the organist played one of Bach's best organ pieces.

An exceptional performance of the Matthäus Passion:

Mezzo (!) soprano Elias Mädler (14 years in this recording) is simply phenomenal. Hear him at 10:40, 1:05:00, 1:10:18, 1:46:26 and 2:07:09.
But all the soloists are outstanding and the overall sound is gorgeous, dramatic and lyrical - which makes the quiet sorrow of 'Wenn ich einmal soll scheiden' even more moving.
A++

In the video above, of the Matthäus Passion, Christian Fliegner directs the Tölzer Knabenchor.
And here we see Christian as a boy soprano, singing an aria from the Matthäus :) A great, great version.

Just watching it again and I must also mention Lionel Wunsch (13, soprano) who sings 'Blute nur'. His performance is astounding.

I came upon this video featuring excerpts from a 1942 Christmas mass at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The choir director definitely has an interesting conducting style. I won't comment about the choir, so just listen and judge for yourselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b34ZFxmx7Cs

Did a French choir sing 'Silent Night' in English? As to the conducting
