Libera - Christmas in Ireland

Post by TullyBascombe »

Slated to be released in November, any idea where we will be able to purchase this DVD other than from Tower Records in Japan? I've looked at the Amazon sites for the US and the UK, but there is no mention of it.

Just have a little patience, it will be released worldwide when it will be time to do so ;)

Even the two Japanese sites HMV and Tower Records removed today the CD and DVD from their pages, it was apparently too early for them to publish the new CD and DVD.

I just happened to look on Amazon.com this morning, and I saw that "Libera: Angels Sing: Christmas in Ireland" will be available on this site as of November 5th, 2013. This DVD can be pre-ordered for a discounted price of $17.49. The companion CD is also available for pre-order as of November 5th at $18.99.

I just placed my order. For some strange reason the audio CD is more expensive than the DVD.

I don't see any listing for a DVD either, if that's what you're talking about. Just the CD for $18.99 available for pre-order but no hint of the DVD.

*edit* Never mind, I just refreshed the page and now they're both listed. Evidently I'm missing something, as usual. Carry on!

Thanks for the alert, Tully. I have been checking Amazon every now & again to see when the DVD would be available and hadn't had any luck.
It looks the DVD is so cheap (or the CD is so expensive) because the DVD is being offered up on discount and the CD is not at present.

I am not sure if I am posting this information in the correct thread, but it is about the concert in Armagh. I was curious as to whether some PBS stations will pick up the concert for broadcast during pledge drives, and did a little bit of research on the web. I went to WNED (the PBS station I receive from Buffalo), and sure enough, there it was! I am happy to report that the concert, which was recorded for both DVD and television, will be broadcast on Friday, October 11th at 8 p.m., with a repeat broadcast following at 9:30 p.m. That is one week from this Friday, so those of us who couldn't get to Northern Ireland will be able to experience "Libera: Angels Sing: Christmas in Ireland". I am guessing that WNED will be doing a membership drive at that time. I am not sure how many other PBS stations will broadcast the concert, but those who also can receive a PBS station in their area might want to do a little research of their own on their station's website. Christmas in October for some American and Canadian supporters! Then again, the Christmas season seems to come earlier and earlier each year. Last week, I was doing some grocery shopping and noticed that some outdoor Christmas lights, etc. were already put out for sale in my local supermarket!

Thank you Labbie, very interesting :D

It's also referenced on TV Guide.com : http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/libera-a ... and/595710

I checked with a Buffalo zip code and it appears, you're right :

So the DVD recording will be aired in full nearly one month before the sales opening.
Isn't that a bit strange ?

Will this early airing going to promote, or hurt sales?

I don't think it will hurt sales; in fact, because choral music receives relatively little airplay on TV or radio, this is a good opportunity for Libera to gain some new supporters. The PBS broadcast of the concert from Leiden (which was their first DVD) on WNED was what brought Libera to my attention. DVDs and CDs will probably be offered as membership incentives if this is part of a membership drive. I would imagine that WNED has obtained some early releases for promotional purposes, but I still think many people will still go out and order them on line or buy them in stores as I did.

It's not being aired in this area, at least not for the next 2 weeks. The PBS system is a bit more loosely co-ordinated than the US commercial stations, each station has to pay for its own programs. I'm impressed that the concert got to at least some US stations so quickly. That area, upstate NY, was the first to host a Libera tour in the US, I imagine that Libera has a support base in that area.

Good news for WNED viewers, October does feel a bit early for this but that's just me. I think I'll be doing a cloak & dagger dance around the net to avoid all the unofficial sites which will have this concert in full and probably HD before I get the DVD in my hands!

And I was hoping you were going to say you had found a streaming site where we could watch it!!! I will of course be buying it anyway but if I had seen it I would probably be tempted to wait until St George's to buy direct from Libera rather than ordering from Amazon - that way more money goes to the group..........
