It's not so much that I like the "old songs" any more than recent works, but I wouldn't mind seeing some of these previously recorded songs brought back into the concert set list:

Sailing
I Have A Dream
Bright Eyes
Pie Jesu
Jerusalem
Close Every Door
Sing The Story
Veritas (When A Knight)

I think it comes down to mastery of the music. While very talented and extremely hard working, they are still only doing this on a part-time basis and thus they can only master and perfect so many songs at a time. A Libera concert has about 20 songs. That is no joke for some of these very young boys. And that does not even include all the other music they have to learn for their church services. If were to hazard a guess, I would say that since the older choristers are teaching much of the music (the majority perhaps) to the younger ones, that those older choristers have a "repertoire" that they learned when they were younger; and so they pass those songs on during rehearsals.

Certain songs also require certain voices, particularly solo parts, and once the composition of the choir changes a song may no longer be a good choice for them to sing - until new boys join changing the composition of the group and a song gets reintroduced.

Or I could be wildly off base and it might all be as simple as certain songs being very good and in demand by fans and the group sticking to them. :)

Now that we have a new CD and two concerts tours have just finished, I'd like to dig out this thread again. What would your "next concert wish list" look like at the moment? Regardless of how realistic it is concerning the songs, the capabilities of the current soloists or the difficulties of a live performance.

Mine is (I don't mind the songs' order at all, therefore alphabetical and including an encore):

1. Adoramus
2. Ave Maria (Robert)
3. Ave Verum
4. Benedictus Deus
5. Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep
6. How Shall I Sing That Majesty
7. Mysterium
8. Salva me
9. Sancte
10. Secret
11. Something Sings
12. Stabat
13. Stabat Mater
14. Three Ravens
15. Time
16. Touch The Sky
17. Venite Adoremus
18. Vespera
19. Voca Me
20. We Are The Lost (Resuming this particular song next year would make sense and I deeply hope they will, as this is such a beautiful song!)

Twenty songs ... more than demanding, I fear. But I couldn't throw out any of them.

Looking back at my reply from over 2 years ago quite a few changes would be made.

Here is my old list with changes. Once again, no particular order:

  2. Beata Lux Mysterium
  3. Stay with Me
  4. Libera
  5. Vespera
  6. Dreaming of home Angele Dei
  7. Be Still My Soul
  8. Joyful Joyful
  9. Adoramus
  10. Lead Kindly Light
  11. Sancta
  12. Sanctissima
  13. Salva Me
  14. Sanctus 2
  15. The Prayer
  16. Wings of a Dove (from Visions)
  17. Lullaby Venite Adoremus
  18. Ave Virgo
  19. Angels We Have Heard On High
  20. Wexford Carol

May I join in the fun? :D
I haven't had time to listen to all of their songs (I usually replay songs I like dozens of times before moving on to the new ones). Based on what I've listened to since I became a fan two months ago, I think I'll go with these (in no particular order):

1. Air on the G string
2. Always With You
3. Ave Maria (Robert Prizeman)
4. Ave Virgo
5. Be Still My Soul or Abide With Me
6. Benedictus Deus
7. I Am The Day or How Shall I Sing That Majesty
8. Nearer my God to Thee or How Great Thou Art
9. O Sanctissima or Lacrymosa
10. Recordare
11. Salva Me
12. Salve Regina
13. Sanctus
14. Secret
15. Stabat Mater
16. The Prayer or How Can I Keep From Singing
17. Touch The Sky
18. Venite Adoremus
19. Voca Me
20. You Were There

Forgive me for all the or part, it's just really hard to choose between them. :P But it does show if those songs were not on this imaginative set list of mine, I would rather replace them with certain ones (more than the others).
* for Sanctus, it's not a hardcore favorite of mine, but I've always wanted to listen to it live in a cathedral (the acoustic of the place can do it justice).

:o  Well, if it is allowed to have a "light" version and not only one where we have to strictly limit ourselves to 20 songs, then I also use the "or" version and at least put Sanctissima, Twilight and Ave Maria (Vavilov/Caccini) into the list without knowing which of the other songs I could replace. :?

Um ... no. As there is simply no way, because the number of songs I'd love to hear live is high, I stick to my list. After Robert may have fulfilled one of these wishes (except for Voca me and Salva me - they remain in the list), I'll directly go and take Sanctissima in. And then: to be continued! :D

Now, I've decided I need a "best concert set list" before London and Ely :D

- Arirang (no CD record and I love that song and I'd like to hear their version... The Moon Represents My Heart too but I doubt they will sing it again)
- Nearer My God to Thee (I heard it in London 2015 but... no CD record yet !)
- San Damiano (Hope)
- Dies Irae
- Sacris Solemnis
- Venite Adoremus
- Exsultate (I hope that Merlin's really good, because I'm suuuch a fan of Thomas DL's interpretation) - sorry Yorkie !
- I am the day
- Going Home or Do not stand
- Salve Regina
- Far Away or Song of Life
- Stabat Mater (but that's a challenge to be as good as Isaac)
- Libera (2 soloists version)
- Sempiterna
- How Great Thou art
- Wayfaring Stranger
- Be Still my Soul
- From a Distance

After viewing the video about Diana's memorial I think we should add "Deep Peace" to the list, but with Libera by themselves.

For How Shall I Sing That Majesty I have decided to want to hear Gabe or Rocco with it. :)

... or both of them.

Actually, on the Angels Sing: Libera In America DVD there are Lucas and Alessandro who sing the solo parts for this song. Are there any other recordings with Lucas and/or Alessandro singing solos? I'm not sure.

Yes, Alessandro had a solo in the America The Beautiful video, and he sang a part of Smile in the Hope Album ! Lucas I do not think so... and I really enjoyed his voice, it's too bad.

Lucas sang a solo line in the song 'Carol of the Bells' on the Christmas DVD (preceded by a line of Tom DL). :D
And also in the 'Song of Life' - DVD in America, you can hear his voice quite obvious in the line 'now it blends in the tune' (well, I'm not sure about this, but I think so.)

Having listened to Hope a few times now, I also thought it was time to update my best concert set list posted two years ago. I had to make room for five new songs from Hope.

In no particular order and again omitting Christmas songs, here's my list of 20 songs for 2017:

1. Joyful Joyful
2. Far Away
3. Libera
4. Time
5. You Were There
6. Wings of a Dove
7. Morning Has Broken
8. The Prayer Salve Regina
9. I'm Dreaming of Home
10.Orinoco Flow
11. Wayfaring Stranger
12. Exsultate From A Distance
13. How Can I Keep From Singing Home
14. I Am The Day Smile
15. Salve Me
16. I Vow To Thee My Country
17. Be Still My Soul Venite Adoramus
18. How Great Thou Art
