maartendas wrote:Wow. This is (apparently) the final solo performance by Baudouin Aube with the Petits Chanteurs de la Croix de Bois. One of the best boy sopranos of our times - to my ears anyway. At 14, his voice has changed to baritone but they still give him this solo and deservedly so. A moving performance in many respects.
Big contrast to this.

Or this one that I regularly come back to:

It's touching to see how he has grown up since then. And yet he still has the same way of performing and also a glorious tone to his voice, like a golden shine. I hope he continues to use this talent with his new voice.

He's no Tom Cully or Ed Day though is he? And that performance really drives home just how unique Libera are - not saying that they aren't a good choir and he isn't a good soloist but that is a very flat arrangement and performance compared to the sparkle that Libera lends to this piece.
If I’ve got owt to say I says it, and if I’ve got owt to ask I asks it.

PCCB are aiming at something different than Prizeman. I find the PCCB version calms me and gives me a sense of prayer. I would really miss that prayerful mood if the arrangement were more complex. I love how sparse it is. Plus it really lets Baudouin's voice shine. There's something in his tone which just gets me every time.

Completely agree Yorkie.

I would of liked to see what Prizeman could of done with Baudouin in his prime.

I just learnt of the sudden death of John Scott on August 12th. I am left utterly speechless.

The Mendelssohn piece in particular is stunning - what a great organ.

That Psalm setting does it every time for me. May John Scott "dwell in the house of the Lord forever".

This I found just now. A good night to all:

I was browsing Youtube for performances of the first cantatas of the Weihnachtsoratorium – and then stumbled across this aria from number 4. I don't believe I have even heard it ever before. Unearthly, the music and this performance in particular.

Peaceful Advent to everyone.

Very nice, but a bit too "plummy" for my taste. I prefer a purer, crystal tone as heard here: Reminds me of TDL in his prime- but this is Aksel Rykkvin. Please support him if you can at

A little bit of topic... Proud to have been a part of this celebration today on the 150th birthday of Sibelius (there's a video):

Thousands of people came to sing and listen – there must have been well over a thousand singers in the choir on the steps of the cathedral alone!
